PROBLEMATIC ASPECTS OF THE CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION OF EUROPEAN CULTURE IN THE POLITICAL SPHERE

Abstract

The article highlights the crisis stage of consumer culture (which is also the basis of contemporary political culture), which needs to be transformed into a culture of dignity and new values. The study examines the necessary conditions for this – the definition of the special features of the political space, the specific characteristics of which were proposed by the French philosopher J. Rancière. The near impossibility of defining the political field in a structured and purely rational way is a unique source for the emergence of a new political subject that will become the bearer of a distinct political culture. The study proposes certain signs of basic cultural identification of a European, which can be reduced to the concept of a citizen’s “culture of dignity” according to E. Fromm. A hypothesis is put forward regarding the possibility, in the context of the emergence of a new political subject with a basic attitude of a culture of dignity, of developing new forms of democracy, equality, and social justice.
