THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL THINK CENTRES IN FORMING CONTEMPORARY WORLD POLITICS

Abstract

The main content of international think tanks is identified, the features of their functioning are noted. The study focuses on the role of “think tanks” that develop policy strategies for both international structures and states and individual political figures.The purpose of this study is to determine the role of international think tanks in the processes of forming modern world politics. The object of the study is the leading international think tanks (Brooklyn Institute, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Council on Foreign Relations, Atlantic Council, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, International Institute for Strategic Studies, Council on Geostrategies and others). The research methods are based on the use of system analysis, comparative-historical approach, content analysis method and case study (document analysis, study of graphic and text information, etc.).Their significant role in the formation of foreign policy, international security is determined, because they are important elements of the modern system of international relations, combining expert knowledge with the practice of political management. They are able to professionally identify and formulate contemporary problems, as well as communicate with governments, international organizations and civil society. That is, international think tanks are a kind of bridges between academic science and practical politics, seeking to influence the content of politics, political processes, shape the agenda through targeted research and strategic dissemination of results, and engage in advocacy. Accordingly, the study emphasizes that international think tanks perform research, forecasting, consulting, ideological and communication functions, as they are created to discuss and promote important decisions in all areas of socio-political, economic, and security life of a modern globalized society
