VERBALIZATION OF THE CONCEPT OF SURVIVAL IN CINEMA DISCOURSE (BASED ON THE MATERIAL OF “THE MAZE RUNNER” TRILOGY)

The article is devoted to the study of semantic and cognitive objectification of the concept SURVIVAL in the English film discourse (on the material of “The Maze Runner” trilogy). The main result of the study is the identification of the lexical means of verbalising the SURVIVAL concept and the description of its main and differential cognitive features. The analysis of the SURVIVAL concept is carried out using the technique of component analysis on the basis of dictionary definitions with the selection of semes from English lexicographic sources, which reflect the specifics of the fragment of the linguistic world picture denoting SURVIVAL, as well as contextual and conceptual analysis, and cognitive-discursive interpretation of SURVIVAL discourse contexts. The study of verbalisation is carried out on the material of the English dystopian film discourse, since it is characterised by a variety of verbal means of expressing behavioural concepts. It has been found that the lexical means of objectification of the SURVIVAL concept in film discourse are the lexemename of the concept (“survival”, “to survive” and derived words m), as well as synonymic lexemes “to last”, “to save”, “to make it”, “to escape”, “to exit”, “to look for a way out”, “to get away”, “to stay alive”. All of them reveal the meaning of the concept and are elements of its core zone. In the definition of SURVIVAL, the dominant semes are state and continuing to live, continuing to exist, which actualise the dominant cognitive features: the state of existence despite danger, overcoming danger, avoiding a dangerous situation. Peripheral elements of the SURVIVAL concept include the lexemes “to keep (that way)”, “to run”, “to find (shelter)”. The differential cognitive features of the SURVIVAL concept, according to the study, are “following the rules” (to lead, do what sb. says), “keeping silent”, “never stop moving”.
