The article deals with the paradigm of the German verb with regard to the concept of temporal construction. According to this concept, it is not the tense that carries the temporal interpretation of sentences, but rather the temporal construction. First, the paper justifies the strict distinction between tense and temporal construction based on the analogy of the temporal interpretation of embedded finite and that of embedded infinite sentences. This analogy suggests that tense is not crucial for the temporal interpretation of sentences. Thus, the paradigm of the German verb only includes the finite forms that have the features tense and mode, and the forms that do not have these features, but rather the status. The presented paradigm with a total of 29 verb forms Folium” спецвипуск (2023) contains a smaller number of verb forms compared to the traditional verb paradigms. However, the new system is plausible if the tense is viewed only as a formal feature and not as a meaningful feature. The article also lists the inflectional morphemes that contain the verb forms. These morphemes include the inflectional prefixes and the inflectional suffixes.
