Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of genre varieties of professional political communication in the British political discourse during the period of Russian aggression against Ukraine (February 24, 2022 – February 2026) from the standpoint of a cognitive-communicative approach. The aim of the work is to determine the specifics of the functioning of genres of political communication, in particular, government statements, political speeches, parliamentary debates and discussions, political interviews, campaign speeches and diplomatic documents as tools for cognitive modeling of reality, promotion of policies of support for Ukraine and the formation of a collective narrative about the war. Based on authentic sources (official Hansard transcripts, government publications on the GOV.UK website, speeches by Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer, British diplomatic documents at the UN, OSCE and G7 meetings), it was established that British political discourse is characterized by high inter-party consensus, moral clarity of positions and systemic activation of cognitive frames “illegal and unprovoked aggression”, “good versus evil”, “rules-based international order” vs “imperialism and tyranny”. Such a narrative is formed and implemented in various genres of political communication. The cognitivecommunicative approach made it possible to identify how these genres transmit information and actively construct reality, activating frames of moral clarity and collective solidarity. It is proven that genre forms of British political communication are practiced both to inform society and to perform the functions of involvement in the political process, ensuring stable support for Ukraine, regardless of changes in the personal composition of the British government.
