SYNTHETIC AND ANALYTICAL MEANS OF LATIN TRANSPLANTOLOGY TERMINOLOGY FORMATION: STRUCTURAL AND ETYMOLOGICAL ASPECT

The article investigates synthetic and analytical means of forming Latin terminology within the medical sublanguage of transplantology. The research focuses on the structural and etymological analysis of core terms defined by the Law of Ukraine No.2427-VIII, including transplantation, anatomical materials, donor and recipient. The study categorizes the analyzed terminology into synthetic (single-word) and analytical (multi-word) units. It was established that single-word complex terms follow specific patterns: 1) root morpheme + suffix (donator, oris m); 2) prefix + root morpheme + suffix (transplantatio, onis f); 3) combinations of Greek-Latin-derived elements where the final component carries the primary meaning, specified by a prefix-like component (xenotransplantatio, onis f). The research highlights that analytical terminological units are highly productive in transplantology. Unlike synthetic terms, they specify the meaning of basic units through dependent components (adjectives, nouns and occasionally participles). Structurally these are predominantly two-word terms following the patterns «noun + adjective» (transplantatum vasculare) or «noun + noun» (transplantatum cartilaginis). From an etymological perspective, the study compares Latin terminology with its English counterparts, noting that despite the dominance of English in medicine, its core transplantology terms remain derivatives of international Latin forms, adapted to English phonetic and grammatical norms (transplantatum vs transplant). The phenomenon of idiographic synonymy such as allotransplant and allograft is also considered.
