GASTRONOMIC DISCOURSE OF SHORT PROSE BY E. KONONENKO

Abstract

The article determines gastronomic component of Ukrainian literature has been an important part of it for more than one century. Writers of modern Ukrainian literature have been particularly attentive to this problem. Moreover, the gastronomic component is present in both serious and playful mass literature. One of the writers who is suitable for depicting this problem is Yevgenia Kononenko. In the writer’s works, the gastronomic component acts as a multifunctional component. It helps to characterize the cultural code through the contrast of national and foreign food, cooked and raw materials, create a chronotope of short stories, express the hierarchy and ways of building relationships within the family; show love, betrayal, forgiveness, become an expression of memory, the embodiment of social problems, etc. Therefore, the purpose of our study will be to analyze the features of the use of gastronomic elements in the texts of Yevgenia Kononenko. The materials of the article will determine the features of the use of gastronomic elements as a cultural code. The use of gastronomic elements as a way of creating a chronotope will also be outlined. In addition, the specifics of the implementation of gastronomic elements as a hierarchy and a way of building relationships within the family will be analyzed. Another aspect of the study will be the definition of gastronomic elements as a way of depicting relationships, love, forbidden feelings, reconciliation, etc. The study will also consider the role of gastronomic elements as a manifestation of feminism, gender politics, gender stereotypes, etc. Special attention will be paid to the depiction of food as a sign of historical time, a way of characterizing the complex and turbulent era of the 1990s and 2000s. The material for the study will be the writer’s short prose: «Early on Sunday», «On the Left Leg», «Regime», «Five Minutes of Tenderness», «Torn Tights», «Dialogues and Misunderstandings», «There is No Paradise on Earth», etc.
